why the DTH water well drilling rig need to match air compressor?
DTH means “Down the hole”, Because the DTH method was originally developed to drill large-diameter holes downwards in surface- drilling application, it was name originated from the fact that the percussion mechanism followed by the bit down into the hole, Applicatios were later found for the DHT method underground. The direction of drilling is generally upwards instead of downwards, thats why named “Down-The-Hole”.
In the Down the hole drilling ,the percussion mechanism commonly called the hammer is located directly behind the drill bit. The drill pipes transmit the necessary feed force and rotation to hammer and bit plus compressed air or fluids for the hammer and flushing cuttings, the drill pipe are added to the drill string successively behind the hammer as the hole gets deeper, the piston strikes the impact surface of the bit directly and stable guidance of the drill bit. Then air enters the drill string from the compressor via a side inlet swivel. Live air travels down the outside of the dual wall swivel and drill rod into the hammer. Exhaust air containing the sample returns through the center of the bit, drill rod and swivel into the hopper. so the air compressor is the power to push the rig to drill the rock.
